Julie’s Story – Life at Nexa with Julie Trimble

Continuing our ‘Consultants’ Stories’ series where our lawyers share their journey to becoming a consultant solicitor and joining Nexa, we caught up with Julie Trimble.

Meet the consultant…

Julie is an experienced commercial property solicitor who specialises in acting for landowners and developers. She also deals with general, non-contentious matters for the agricultural and commercial sector as well as advising on commercial funding. Here’s what she had to say:

I started my training in a large local law firm in Shrewsbury. Half-way through I was fortunate to move my training contract to the South of England, where I was able to work with national and international clients. From there I moved to a firm where I led a large commercial property team. I returned to Shropshire in 2004 where I worked for PCB solicitors. After starting my family, I moved to a boutique commercial firm.

I had previously worked as a consultant at another law firm, so I knew that it suited me, and I wanted to carry on being a consultant. I really enjoy the freedom of working as a consultant and the rewards are far greater – not just financially, but because I can work as and when I want.

I didn’t feel I was getting the professional support I needed at my previous firm and was attracted to Nexa because they had a wide range of solicitors who could give specialist advice to my clients, when needed, in relation to services I couldn’t provide.

I’ve met many likeminded people here and it’s great to be able to share a joke with people as well as feel comfortable asking for a second opinion from time-to-time – that’s not always easy in a traditional law firm.

I’m working for myself, so I’m not restricted to working certain hours. If I work at night, it’s because I chose to and know I am going to reap the benefits, not the firm.

It’s understandable that solicitors thinking of becoming self-employed feel apprehensive about getting enough work, but my clients have been very loyal and keen to recommend me because I’m working for myself and can provide both a personal and value driven service. I’ve never been as busy as I am now but I’m loving it because it’s on my own terms!”
