Steven Mather is a business solicitor who helps owner-managed companies grow, sell, buy and protect what they have built. Most of his work is company sales and purchases between £250,000 and £10m, usually for people who have spent years building something but have never sold a business before.
He works on fixed fees, agreed in writing before he starts, so clients know what they are paying from day one. And they deal with Steven himself from the first conversation through to completion.
Alongside deals, Steven acts as a fractional general counsel for businesses that want a senior lawyer on hand without hiring one. He is direct but friendly, writes and speaks in plain English rather than jargon, and brings a bit of humour to work that is usually stressful for the person going through it.

Background
Steven qualified in 2008 and has been a business lawyer ever since. He was a partner and head of litigation at a Leicester firm for nine and a half years before leaving to set up on his own as a consultant solicitor. In 2025 he was named Solicitor of the Year by the Leicestershire Law Society.
He is a trained mediator, sits on the Law Society Council for Leicestershire and Northamptonshire, and lectures for MBL Seminars on corporate law, such as his course on the disclosure letter, and on AI for Lawyers. He is also the author of several books, among them Selling Your Business and a novel called Drafts Disclaimers and Deaths.
Business has been part of his life since school, from selling sweets in the playground to running a web design company before university, and he has owned and sold businesses of his own since. It means he tends to look at a deal the way his clients look at it, rather than only as a set of documents.
Outside work, Steven is a Christian, married to Yuki, and they have two children. He writes books, plays the piano and a bit of tennis, fancies himself a coffee connoisseur, and enjoys good food.
