David Roth answers the most common questions potential consultants ask about Nexa
David is our friendly, People and Systems Manager here at Nexa. His role includes engaging with potential consultant lawyers to make sure they have all the information they need to then make a fully informed decision about joining us.
We know it’s a big leap; coming out of private practice or an in-house role and going it alone as a self-employed consultant solicitor. Naturally people want to do their due diligence before making such a big decision.
David is really approachable and always available to talk confidentially to anyone who is thinking about working differently with Nexa. There’s no obligation and absolutely no hard sell, we’re just happy to talk because we are pretty passionate about how we do things here at Nexa.
David is also pretty persuasive – in the last two years he has helped recruit over 100 lawyers to Nexa, growing our consultant base by 400%!
He is therefore ideally placed to share the most common questions (and answers) people ask him about joining Nexa.
Why should I join Nexa?
There is a pretty long list of positive reasons, including: freedom to work the way you want to, a market leading fee share and excellent referral incentives, dependable back office and cashier support to take care of all the admin., a fast-growing network of high-quality consultants to work with (if you wish), no start up fees and no liability for any insurance excess in the event of a claim.
How much of my billed income will I retain?
It depends what you do, for conveyancers it’s 65% and for other areas of law it’s 75% to start with, plus an annual bonus ratchet for high performers. The more you bill, the more you get to keep. To find out more, check out our income calculator.
For a simple example of how the figures stack up, see our recent blog: What’s the catch? There isn’t one – our consultants really can cash in!
There is no limit on how much you can earn and our fee structure is totally transparent.
How much experience do I need?
Ideally, we look for 6 years PQE but, we’re flexible and happy to consider other forms of experience to support your application – we never rule out strong candidates with less than that.
How do I set up as a consultant with Nexa?
Talk to David by phone or email and get details of our recommended accountants and other preferred suppliers to help set up a personal services company and establish your own legal brand (if you haven’t already) or you can set up on your own (in an individual capacity). It really is very simple after that, just follow our easy online application and onboarding process. For more information see our recent blog: Applying to join Nexa just got even easier.

No, there are no start-up fees. All you’ll need is your own mobile phone, laptop and internet connection, plus an annual practising certificate from the SRA, that’s it.
What areas of law does Nexa cover?
