Meet Roy Carter, a Specialist Regulatory Fire Lawyer

Roy qualified as a solicitor in 2010 whilst serving as an officer in the fire service. He is a Member of the Law Society of England and Wales and a Member of the Institute of Fire Safety Managers. In 2007 he was awarded the Fire Service Long Service and Good Conduct Medal.

Background

Before launching his own enterprise as a consultant solicitor, Roy’s career spanned over three decades within the fire and rescue service, including working, latterly, as a member of the strategic management board, principal solicitor, monitoring officer and general counsel to one of the UK’s largest and first, police, fire and crime commissioner fire and rescue authorities.

As an accomplished fire and rescue authority fire officer and in-house solicitor, Roy has a proven track record of providing proactive, timely and authoritative legal advice and support to numerous fire and public authorities, chief officers, directors, strategic managers, department managers, politicians SMEs and individuals.

Legal experience, expertise, and services

His customary areas of work offer general counsel, strategic legal management, legal risk identification and mitigation, corporate governance (public administrative and private), data protection/FOI, and health and safety law.

He has significant expertise in regulatory fire crime investigation and enforcement, under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, and of the emergency services’ operational and strategic legal arena.

Roy has worked with trade unions and has demonstrable experience of assisting clients during live and sometimes hostile trade union industrial action, as well as general employment disputes and whistleblowing.

He is a pro-active solicitor, able to offer clients with a flexible, sound, and tailored service. Roy is recognised as a highly disciplined, confident, and effective individual with a known ability to offer diplomatic, emotionally intelligent, pragmatic, and cost-effective sound counsel with sector astuteness, resilience, value, and influence.

Roy is a former course director and visiting lecturer at the Fire Service College (Moreton-in-Marsh, England) and continues to design and regularly provide, bespoke training and development programmes on several legal topics to numerous client groups.
